Unsere Partnerorganisation in Indien

 

Field Services and Intercultural Learning (FSL-India)

FSL-India wurde 2001 als gemeinnützige, nicht-religiöse und nicht-politische Nichtregierungsorganisation gegründet. Sie befindet sich in Bangalore im südindischen Bundesstaat Karnataka und bietet Workcamps in verschiedenen Regionen des Landes an. Die meisten Projekte liegen jedoch ebenfalls im Süden Indiens. FSL-India kooperiert bei der Projektorganisation mit vielen Nichtregierungsorganisationen und lokalen Gemeinden. Durch die Freiwilligenarbeit verschafft FSL-India indischen Jugendlichen, Frauen, Kindern, Landwirten, Fischern und anderen verletzlichen Teilen der Gesellschaft direkten Kontakt zu jungen Leuten aus dem Ausland. Die internationalen Freiwilligen können eine positive Auswirkung auf lokale Gemeinden haben, indem sie diese ermutigen, die von FSL-India und ihnen begonnene Arbeit fortzuführen. Durch ihre Bemühungen hilft FSL-India unter anderem das Nachdenken der lokalen Gemeinden über den Internationalismus im Zeitalter der Globalisierung, aber auch das Bewusstsein für und Hinterfragen der eigenen Kultur zu fördern. Die Freiwilligen sollen wiederum eine aufregende Zeit in Indien erleben.

The Himalayan Beauty: “A Soulful Ride” – Environment/ Renovation/ Tibetan Culture

About Dharamshala:

Valleys of the Himalayas - This small paradise on earth is home to the His Holiness Dalai Lama and to a significant Tibetan settlement in India. Dharamshala is set in the backdrop of the snow-clad peaks of Dhaulathar Mountains. It is the capital of the Tibetan government in exile and the residence of the Dalai Lama.

 

The Workcamp:

The project is for providing sanitation and safety wall facilities to the schools and the community and a clean environment for the community which is being affected by tourist influx and lack of waste management system, watershed management systems and also to create awareness on the Tibetan migrant and their culture. FSL India is conducting regular camps all through the year for the last 9 years with the purpose of bringing a sustainable model in the hilly terrain with the partnership of the school management committee, waste warriors, Tibetan Welfare Office and the local municipality.

 

Activities:

  • Promote eco friendly practices

  • In the first two weeks of this workcamp, the volunteers will work on renovation of school buildings and walls, wall painting, educational drawing, teaching basic English and mathematics

  • Cleanup activities in the waterfalls, creating awareness to the community and tourist to support responsible tourism, health and hygiene awareness and tree plantation to avoid landslides.

 

Leisure Activities:

  • Visit various Tibetan institutes to understand the migrant issue and how the government is taking care of the migrants. Interact with monks and the local community to understand the culture.

  • On the third week of the camp volunteers will take part in a four-day trekking activity around the mountains of Dharamshala and Triund.

 

Location and Transport:

McLeod Ganj is in Kangra district which is upper part of Dharamshala. Dharamshala is located in the state of Himachal Pradesh, North India, 500 kilometers from Delhi.

About the Great Himalayan National Park:

This National Park in the western part of the Himalayan Mountains in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh is characterized by high alpine peaks, alpine meadows and riverine forests. The 90,540 ha property includes the upper mountain glacial and snow meltwater sources of several rivers, and the catchments of water supplies that are vital to millions of downstream users. The GHNPCA protects the monsoon-affected forests and alpine meadows of the Himalayan front ranges. It is part of the Himalaya biodiversity hotspot and includes twenty-five forest types along with a rich assemblage of fauna species, several of which are threatened. This gives the site outstanding significance for biodiversity conservation.

 

The Workcamp:

The camp will focus on conserving biodiversity of the great Himalayan national park which was established in 1984 and is spread over an area of 1171 km2 at an altitude of between 1500 and 6000 m. The Great Himalayan National Park is a habitat to numerous flora and more than 375 fauna species insects. The camp will be implemented in coordination with UNESCO World Heritage Centre, archaeological survey of India and the Great Himalayan national park, the local school and community.

  • Awareness rally on conserving natural resources and ecology

  • Conservation educations in Schools in buffer villages

Visit to different bird sanctuaries, tribal villages and cattle farms and interaction with trials. Interaction with community on development issues.

The location is Sairopa in the district of Kullu in Himachalpradesh, North India which is 500 km north-west of Delhi.

About Goa:

Goa is situated on the west coast (Arabian Sea), Goa was the former Portuguese colony in India. It is one of India's most cherished and prominent locations for travellers since many years for its remarkable palm-fringed beaches.

 

The Workcamp:

The project is to work in school and orphanage to give a safe, cleaner, creative and environmental friendly atmosphere to the children. Active participation in festival and infuse creativity in to the management.

 

Activities:

  • Teaching basic English to the children, health and hygiene awareness, introduce creative learning methods through play, art and music. Wall painting, tree plantation, making a kitchen Garden, minor repair work of school toilet and kitchen.

  • During the carnival the volunteers will visit families to understand participate in the celebration and help the local people in installing and managing the food stalls.

Visit cultural and religious sites, Indian family visit, intercultural exchange with community

About Goa:

The Workcamp:

The project is to work in school and orphanage to give a safe, cleaner, creative and environmental friendly atmosphere to the children. Understand the social issues.

 

Activities:

  • Teaching basic English to the children, health and hygiene awareness, introduce creative learning methods through play, art and music. Wall painting, tree plantation, making a kitchen garden, minor repair work of school toilet and kitchen

  • Awareness on health, education and hygiene volunteers interact with the orphan children, exposure visits and city walks and cultural exchange program with the local community.

About Hampi:

Located in the central part of the state of Karnataka, in the southern part of India, Hampi is definitely one of the most interesting travel destinations on the map of India. It is famous for its ruins belonging to the erstwhile medieval Hindu kingdom of Vijaynagar, now declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. The temples of Hampi, its monolithic sculptures and monuments are breath-taking. The Hindu style of architecture found at Hampi speaks of the splendour of the Vijaynagar Empire.

 

The Workcamp:

The workcamps in Hampi will focus on the protection of the cultural heritage and the sites of historical importance and on creating awareness among the locals, school children, tour-guides and tourists to infuse a sense of responsibility to protect the monuments. FSL India is running the camps in Hampi for the last 8yrs with the cooperation of UNESCO World Heritage Centre, Archaeological Survey of India, the School Management and the Friends of Hampi-NGO,INTACH and the local tour guide association

 

Activities:

  • An introductory session with the ASI official and interaction with INTACH officials

  • Cleanup activities around the monuments

  • Tree plantation

  • Awareness walk/ Street Play with locals

  • Organizing drawing competition for the school children and opening it up to local people by setting up an open gallery

 

Leisure Activities:

Cultural visit to the sites and temples, interacting with the school children and local community. The volunteer will also participate in the local festivals if it falls during the camp days.

Hampi is located in the state of Karnataka, 350 km north of Bangalore, and 13 km from Hospet.

About Jaipur:

Jaipur, the fascinating capital of the desert state of Rajasthan, is one of the well-planned cities of its time. The graceful architecture of the city that runs across in pink color has earned Jaipur the title of "The Pink City". It is predominantly known for its musicians, artisans and craftsmen. Today, it is flocked by masses for its fine jewelry, varied textiles and sumptuous cuisine.

 

The Workcamp:

The purpose of the camp is to create awareness on environmental issues affecting this city, to create better learning facilities for the children in school, provide community service to the slum dwellers and poor children. The local NGOs, municipal counsellor, school management committee will be the partners of the camp.

 

Activities:

  • The workcamp involves teaching children basic English in non-formal schools and creative learning methods like art, music, games etc.

  • Renovation school toilet and kitchen wall painting and making kitchen garden.

  • Meetings with community to promote health and hygiene, awareness on environmental issues.

  • Tree plantation with community participation.

About Jodphur:

Jodhpur is a popular tourist destination featuring many palaces, forts and temples. The city is known as the “Sun City” for the bright sunny weather it enjoys throughout the year. It is also referred as the “Blue City” due to the indigo tinge of the whitewashed houses around the Mehrangarh Fort.

 

The Workcamp:

The focus of the camp is to create awareness on environmental issues to children and the community, provide community service on health and hygiene and to introduce and teach the school children to creative learning methods. The local NGOs, municipal counsellor, school management committee will be the partners of the camp.

 

Activities:

  • Meetings with community to promote health and hygiene, awareness on environmental issues.

  • Tree plantation with community participation

  • The workcamp involves teaching children basic English in non-formal schools and creative learning methods like art, music, games etc.

About Kundapur:

Kundapur is a town situated near the beach on the west coast of Karnataka state, and is very close to the Western Ghats (a mountain ridge). The Western Ghats is India's prime zone for bio-diversity and known for its animal and plant species in this region. FSL-India has been involved in developing projects for many years in this region and has now formed a very strong network of local partners and local volunteers. Invariably this is one of the prime locations for FSL-India to initiate development interventions in partnership with the local NGOs and civil society organisations.

 

The Workcamp:

The focus of the camp is providing field based learning knowledge on sustainable agriculture, Yoga and the impacts, Practicing Yoga and introduce creative learning methods in schools. FSL India will directly implement with the network of Farmers club, Women groups and school management around 20 satellite villages in and around the FSL India training center. Ayurveda is a 5000 year old Indian health care system that is widely practiced even today. "Ayur" in Sanskrit means "life" and "Veda" mean "science". It is a perfect Science of health and longevity. This holistic science is the knowledge of complete balance of the Body, Mind and Spirit, including the emotions and psychology, on all levels.

 

Activities:

  • Baseline survey and mapping

  • Soil and water conservation, live hedge fencing, fruit and forestry plantation

  • Crop cultivation, composting, kitchen garden, medicinal plants cultivation, nursery management

  • Maintenance and management - After care, Basin making, watering, pruning, protection etc.

  • Post-harvest practices - threshing, cleaning

  • Documentation oftraditional cultivation practices

  • Learn the basics of yoga and practice everyday

  • Teach basic English in school, introduce creative learning through art, music, games etc.

  • Promote health and hygiene awareness

  • Promote eco-friendly practices

  • Sessions to understand the science of ayurveda

  • Nature walk to learn about plants and its medicinal values

  • Learn how to make homemade remedies

 

Leisure Activities:

Visit to cultural and religious sites, family visit as part of inter-cultural learning and participate in the cultural programs with local community.

About Mahabalipuram:

Mahabalipuram, also known as Mamallapuram, is an ancient historic town famous for its stone carvings and cave temples. It was a bustling sea port - ancient Indian traders who went to countries of south-east Asia sailed from the sea port of Mahablipuram. The structures here, mostly carved straight out of granite, are among the oldest existing examples of Dravidian (South Indian) architecture. Mahabalipuram is one of the world heritage site declared by UNESCO.

 

The Workcamp:

The workcamp in Mahabalipuram will focus on the protection of the cultural heritage and the sites of historical importance. To promote sensitivity and respect towards the world heritage site among the school children, college students, tour guides and the community with the cooperation of Lions Club, sculpture collage, schools, the local NGO, and the local tour guide association

 

Activities:

  • Promoting heritage conservation

  • Awareness walk/ Street play with college students and locals

  • Tree plantation

  • Promotion of young guardian club

  • Discussion with college students on the issues of conservation

  • Learning sculpture

 

Leisure Activities:

Visiting Heritage, cultural and religious sites, intercultural exchange with fishermen community, interaction with university students

The Rainforest: “Live an Adventures Life” – Natural Heritage conservation / Awareness

About Western Ghats:

Agumbe is a small village of Western Ghats that lies in malnad region in Shimoga (district) of Karnataka state. Agumbe is well known for two things. Firstly, it records the highest rainfall in Southern India. And secondly, for its scenic outlook and Sunset view point.

 

The Workcamp:

The camp will focus on conserving biodiversity of the Agumbe forest which receives the second highest annual rainfall in the country. The Agumbe forest is in the Western Ghats which is internationally recognized as the world’s eight hotspot of A1 bio-diversity. The camp will be implemented in coordination with UNESCO World Heritage Centre, Archaeological Survey of India and the Agumbe Rain Forest Research Center (ARRS), forest department and the local school.

 

Activities:

  • Interaction with ASI officials

  • Learning sessions with the research centre

  • Raising awareness to conserve the natural resources

  • Tree plantation

  • Help remove weeds and other threatening species

 

Leisure Activities:

Visit the cultural and natural sites in around the Western Ghats, interaction with the school children and create awareness on nature conservation through drawing educational pictures and drawing competition
